beginning to produce the basis for poetry Time: 70 min Lesson
Outline Register class. Change seating if necessary. Whole class: Explain that by the end of this lesson they will have started to produce the basis for poetry. Make it clear that they will not have to read any of this out. Ask for jotters out. Recap instructions on how to 'do' free writing: once start writing do not stop, don't worry about spelling or punctuation, as long as they can read that's ok. Only write to halfway along the page. Will only have a set time. Silence, do not look up. Individually: Write! Give out first lines. Use small time periods e.g. 2 mins. Individually: continue, could ask if anyone has a line or phrase we could use as the first line, or ask six people for a noun, then ask class to put these all into their next piece of writing. Individually: Ask students to go through one piece of writing with a different coloured pen, underlining any word or phrases they really like. Whole Class: Last five minutes. Ask students if any of them would like to read out one of the words/phrases that they have underlined. Ask how they found the process and if there was anything that surprised them. FURTHER ACTION: Homework set; work incomplete; pupils needing support; alterations to forward plans Return to Exeter Model Sequence of Lessons |
